GoDaddy turns up in a scan for reasons that have almost nothing to do with engineering. Somebody bought a domain, took the hosting offered beside it at the checkout, and never thought about the stack again. The marker therefore describes a commercial relationship rather than a technical choice, and the population it identifies is small business inventory rather than a developer community. Anyone treating the field as a statement of taste will misread every row.

As of September 2026 we associate 59,427,167 sites with GoDaddy, a footprint accumulated by GoDaddy Inc. since 1997 across domain registration, the Hosting products sold beside it, and the site building tools layered on top. The platform is Proprietary, so there is no version history to trace and no open ecosystem to follow. What exists instead is a very large book of customers who bought an all in one answer to being online, which is a specific and commercially interesting kind of population to be able to enumerate.

Two audiences want that enumeration for opposite reasons. Competing hosts and registrars want the names because a migration pitch lands better on someone already paying for a comparable service than on someone who has never bought hosting at all. Agencies and software vendors want the same names because a business sitting on a bundled plan has usually outgrown, or is about to outgrow, the template it started on. Both groups need the file rather than a lookup, because the value is in the volume and in narrowing it by suffix, country and the other markers sitting on the same row.

United States accounts for 50,471,082 of those sites, a concentration that is not an artefact of measurement. The company grew from a domestic retail base and the data still shows it, with the suffix weight resting on .com. Anyone using the file to size a market outside that home base should expect the counts to thin quickly and should segment by country before drawing any conclusion about reach. The tail is real, but it is a tail.

One caveat changes how the column should be read. A single brand name here covers several distinguishable things. Nameservers pointed at the registrar, a parking or coming soon page, a shared hosting environment, a managed platform, a drag and drop site builder, an email or certificate product bolted on later. Our fingerprint sees the outward signs and does not always separate them, so a row saying the brand is present is a claim about the relationship and not a claim about which product is actually running. Where the distinction matters commercially, it has to be recovered from the other markers on the row.

Parked and unbuilt domains matter here more than they do elsewhere, because a registrar's inventory naturally contains a long tail of names bought and never used. Filtering that tail is straightforward once the file is on your own machine, since a domain with no icon, no metadata and no content markers beside it is unlikely to belong to a business worth contacting. Doing the same filtering through per domain lookups would cost more in requests and time than the resulting list is worth, which is the practical case for buying the population rather than querying it one name at a time.
