From expiring to dropped, stage by stage
A domain does not go from renewed to free overnight. It moves through a fixed registry sequence, and the expires date on every row tells you where a name sits today.
Expiring
The registration is still valid but the expiry date is close. The owner can renew at any point, so this is the window for building a watchlist rather than a bid list.
Expired
The date has passed and the registrar has not renewed. The site usually goes dark or lands on a parking page, though the owner can still reclaim the name during the grace period.
Redemption
A roughly 30-day window in which only the original owner can restore the domain, and only for a fee. Most names that reach this stage are genuinely abandoned.
Pending delete
The last five days. Recovery is no longer possible and the registry has scheduled the release, so the drop date is now predictable to the day.
Dropped
The name returns to the registry and anyone can register it again. Good names are gone in seconds, which is why the list matters more than the lookup.
Backlink authority on every dropping domain
An expired domain is only worth catching if the rest of the web still points at it. Every row carries two link-graph scores, so you can rank the whole drop by authority instead of guessing from the name.
PageRank
Link-graph authority. A domain that many important pages point at scores higher, so a one-line filter keeps only the drops above the threshold you set. The strongest sites on the web sit near 0.006 and the long tail trails toward zero.
Harmonic Centrality
A second centrality measure of how central a domain is to the whole graph. It is more robust to link spam than PageRank alone, which matters on drops, where spun link networks are common. Use it to sanity-check anything the PageRank filter surfaces.
The full payload on every expiring name
21 columns per row, the same schema as All data, filtered down to domains that are expiring, expired or already dropping. Nothing is stripped out because a domain is on its way out.

How the drop list is built
The same daily pipeline that builds the rest of the database, pointed at the names that are on their way out.
Watch the expiry dates
Every domain we track carries an expiration date from RDAP or WHOIS. The pipeline sweeps the whole database daily and pulls forward everything inside the expiry window.
Re-check near the date
Names approaching expiry are re-queried against the registry rather than trusted from cache, so a renewal drops a domain out of the list instead of leaving a stale lead in it.
Score the link graph
PageRank and Harmonic Centrality are computed across the web link graph and attached to each row, so authority arrives with the domain rather than in a separate lookup.
Attach the full payload
DNS records, detected technologies, hosting IP, country and HTTP status are joined on, which is what tells you whether a name still resolves and what used to run on it.
Export every morning
The file is regenerated from scratch each day as compressed JSONL, so the expiring window is always current and never a cache from last week.
Who buys the drop list
Six ways teams use a full expired domains list instead of a metered lookup.
Rank the whole drop before you bid
Sort a full day of expiring names by PageRank instead of paging through a marketplace. The names worth backordering surface in one query, and you place bids before the auction crowd finds them.
Build a portfolio on data, not hunches
Filter by age, TLD, registrar and authority together. A domain created in 2004 with real link authority is a different asset from a two-year-old name, and the file lets you tell them apart at scale.
Find expired domains with real link authority
Score expiring names for backlink value before anyone else registers them. Both centrality measures ship on every row, so you can filter for authority and screen out spun link networks in the same pass.
Power your own marketplace or tool
License the daily export into your own drop-catching service, appraisal tool or marketplace. You get the ranking signals and the full payload, and your users never leave your product.
Catch names before someone else does
Watch your own portfolio and your lookalikes for expiry. A lapsed corporate domain that drops into the open is a live risk, and the daily export gives you the warning while the redemption window is still open.
Study the churn of the web
The drop is where the web forgets. Measure abandonment by TLD, registrar or technology stack over time, with the full payload attached to every expiring name.
Marketplace lists vs. the whole drop
Working from marketplace lists
- Auction and backorder lists show you what the platform chose to surface, not every name that is dropping.
- Authority arrives as a vendor score you cannot audit, if it arrives at all.
- Metered lookups mean you check the names you already suspect, so you never see the ones you missed.
- Registrar exports carry the name and a date and little else, so enrichment becomes your problem.
One file from webatla
- 28.8M expired and expiring domains in a single file, the whole drop rather than a curated slice.
- PageRank and Harmonic Centrality on every row, computed from the link graph and applied the same way to every domain.
- All 21 columns, so DNS, technologies and registration history come attached to the lead.
- One month of access. No per-lookup metering, no rate limits, no auction queue.
Query the drop in your own stack
JSON Lines and zstandard, one object per row. Point DuckDB straight at the file and the queries below run in seconds on a laptop, with no import step and no API in the loop.
SELECT domain, pr, expires FROM 'domain-investor.jsonl.zst'
WHERE expires < '2026-08-01' ORDER BY pr DESC
Highest authority in the drop
Set a floor on PageRank and the file collapses to the handful of dropping names that carry genuine link authority. Raise the floor as your quality bar rises.
A month of upcoming expiries
Pull a date window to plan a backorder calendar. Run it daily and diff against yesterday to see what was renewed and what is still heading for the drop.
Aged names in a niche
Combine registration age with a keyword to find long-established names in your vertical. Age is in the payload, so you never guess a domain's history from its extension.
Already past expiry
Everything whose date has already passed, which is where redemption and pending delete names sit. These are the drops with a predictable release date.
Where the numbers come from
Scores, not a link dump
PageRank and Harmonic Centrality are computed over the web link graph and shipped as numbers you can sort on. You get the authority signal rather than a raw list of every backlink, which is what keeps a file this size queryable.
The same schema as All data
The drop list is a filtered view of the main database, not a separate product with its own quirks. Columns, types and names match, so a query written for All data runs here unchanged.
Rebuilt daily
The whole file is regenerated each morning, so a name that was renewed yesterday is gone today. An expired domains list that ages is worse than no list at all.
Spanning 1,430 TLDs and 237 countries
webatla tracks domains across every TLD and country. The largest by domain count, each linking to its full profile.
Subscription, freshness, licensing & refunds
How do I download the expired domains list?
Buy one month of access and pull the full expired domains list as a single zstandard-compressed JSONL file (1.2 GB). This expired domain database re-exports daily, so the drop pipeline is always current. Sort and filter it locally or load it into your warehouse.
What counts as expired or expiring?
Domains whose expiration date has passed or is in the near-term window and that have not been renewed at the time of the export, plus recently-expired domains still moving through the drop. Use the expires date to catch expiring names, a pending delete window, or the just-dropped ones.
Do you list expired domains with backlinks?
Every domain is scored by PageRank and Harmonic Centrality, both computed from the web backlink graph, so you can surface the expired domains that carry real backlink authority. You get the authority scores, not a raw dump of every link.
How fresh is the data?
The database is re-exported every day, so the expiring-soon window is always current. Inside your access window you can re-download the latest export whenever you want.
What format does it come in?
JSON Lines, zstandard-compressed (1.2 GB), the full 21-column payload. Sort and filter locally or load it into any warehouse.
How does access work?
You get one month of access, or a year at €2990. Inside that window you can re-download the latest daily export whenever you want.
How do I get the data after I pay?
The moment your payment clears, the dataset appears in your account downloads. You can re-download the latest daily export as often as you like for your whole one-month access window.
Can I use the data commercially?
Yes. Commercial use inside your organisation is covered by the webatla data licence (see the Terms). For redistribution, reselling or multi-year licensing, contact us first.
Do you offer refunds?
Datasets are digital products, so all sales are final, which is exactly why every dataset has a free 10K-row preview to check the schema before you buy. The one exception is a material defect such as a broken file, the wrong schema, or more than 5% missing rows. Email support within 72 hours and we'll re-issue or refund.
