RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a web feed format that allows websites to publish frequently updated content — such as blog posts, news articles, and podcasts — in a standardized XML format. RSS feeds enable users and applications to subscribe to content sources and receive updates automatically without visiting individual websites.

Firstly popularized in the late 1990s and early 2000s, RSS became a foundational technology of the early web and remains widely used today, particularly by news sites, blogs, and podcasting platforms. Feed readers, aggregators, and automation tools consume RSS feeds to distribute and republish content. The format is an open standard with no central governing vendor, and support for RSS is built into many CMS platforms, including WordPress, Drupal, and Ghost.
