Getting started

The basics — what webatla is, how it works, who it's for.

What is webatla?

webatla is a global domain database. We crawl, classify and enrich data on every active domain on the web — 407.5 million of them — and ship the result as structured JSON Lines datasets (zstd-compressed) you can download and process yourself.

There's no query UI to log into — you buy a dataset and download the file, or pull it programmatically via the download API.

Who is it for?

Mostly four kinds of teams:

  • Research & data — analysts, ML teams, academic researchers measuring the web
  • Growth & sales — building lead lists ("every Shopify store in Germany")
  • Security & threat intel — tracking lookalikes, new registrations, risky tech stacks
  • Domain investors — finding expiring domains with traffic and rank
How do I try it before paying?

Every dataset has a free 10,000-row sample download. Same schema as the full file, no signup required. Browse the datasets to grab a sample.

How long does it take to get the data after purchase?

Immediately. The download link is on the order confirmation page and emailed to you within seconds. Datasets larger than 10 GB stream as you download — no waiting for an export job.

Datasets & data

What's inside, how it's collected, how fresh it is.

Which datasets do you sell?

Six core datasets plus one special offer:

  • All active domains · €29 · 407.5M rows
  • Active websites + Ranking · €99 · 307.8M rows
  • Technologies · €159 · 270.8M rows

  • All data · €599 · 407.5M rows · everything
  • Domain Investor · €299 · expired + expiring domains with rank

Full details on the pricing page.

How fresh is the data?

Every day we generate a fresh export of every dataset. Inside your access window you can always download the latest version.

Where does the data come from?

We combine multiple sources:

  • Public zone files for every TLD that publishes them
  • Active DNS resolution against our own resolvers
  • Public RDAP and WHOIS endpoints
  • Our own crawler for technology fingerprinting (HTTP headers, HTML markers, JS heuristics)
  • Public ranking signals (PageRank, Harmonic Centrality)
How accurate is the technology detection?

For widely-deployed platforms (WordPress, Shopify, Cloudflare, Google Analytics) we measure precision around 99%. Long-tail and self-hosted tools sit at 92-95%. False positives almost always come from white-label resellers running the same fingerprint.

How big are the files?

Sizes vary by dataset and grow over time, so we don't pin fixed numbers here — the current compressed size is shown on each dataset's page and on the checkout screen.

Files are JSON Lines, zstd-compressed (.jsonl.zst); decompressed they are several times larger, so plan disk accordingly.

Is there a schema document?

The free 10,000-row sample (plain .jsonl) shows the exact schema, and the full column reference with data types lives on your API page. Column names are stable; new columns are appended (never re-ordered) so your loaders don't break.

Pricing & billing

How payment, renewals and refunds work.

Is this really not a subscription?

Correct. Every dataset is a one-time purchase. We don't auto-renew, and we don't keep a card on file unless you explicitly opt in. Your access expires automatically and you choose when to renew.

What does "1 month" access mean?

From the moment of purchase you have one calendar month during which you can download the dataset — including every daily fresh export published in that window — as many times as you want. When it expires the download link stops working.

How does the yearly option work?

Same model, longer window. You pay 10× the monthly price and get a full year of access — saving 2 months versus renewing each month. Still one-time, still no auto-renewal.

What payment methods do you accept?

Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA direct debit and bank transfer (for orders over €500). All processed via Stripe.

Do you offer refunds?

No. The datasets are digital products and all sales are final. That's why every dataset ships with a free 10,000-row preview — exact same schema and quality as the full file — and we ask you to confirm at checkout that you've reviewed it. Once payment goes through, the download link is delivered immediately.

The only exception is a material defect — wrong schema, a corrupted or malformed file, more than 5% of rows missing vs the advertised count. In that case email support@webatla.com within 72 hours and we'll either re-issue or refund.

Under EU law (§312g(2)(13) BGB) the 14-day withdrawal right doesn't apply to immediately-delivered digital content that you expressly consented to receive. Checking the preview-reviewed box at checkout is that consent.

Do you accept crypto?

Yes — pay in crypto (BTC, ETH, USDT and more) via our crypto checkout. Access unlocks automatically once the payment confirms.

For bank transfer or invoice-then-pay on larger orders, contact us.

Can I switch between datasets?

Each dataset is a separate purchase, so moving to a different one is a new purchase — there's no in-place upgrade credit.

Buying the same dataset again while access is still active renews it: the new month is added on top of your remaining time, so you never lose days.

Can I get an invoice with VAT details?

Yes. Add your company name and VAT ID in Billing → Invoice details before purchase, and every future invoice will be issued correctly. We can also re-issue past invoices on request.

Do you charge VAT?

Yes for EU customers without a valid VAT ID. EU B2B customers with a verified VAT ID are reverse-charged. Non-EU customers are charged net.

Formats & delivery

How you actually get the file.

What format do I get the data in?

JSON Lines, zstd-compressed (.jsonl.zst) — one JSON object per line. The free 10K sample is plain, uncompressed .jsonl. That's the only format; there's no CSV or Parquet.

How do I download?

A signed HTTPS download, resumable, valid for your whole access window. You can pull the full dataset or just one slice — a single TLD, TLD suffix, country or technology.

The same files are reachable programmatically via the download API with your key.

Can I use this with BigQuery / Snowflake / Postgres?

Yes. Files are JSON Lines (newline-delimited JSON) — decompress with zstd and load as NDJSON. BigQuery, Snowflake and DuckDB ingest JSONL directly; for Postgres, load each line into a jsonb column or flatten with jq first.

Do you have an API?

Yes — a download API, included with every dataset at no extra cost. Use a Bearer key from your account to pull the full file or a per-scope slice (one TLD, suffix, country or technology). There's no separate query/lookup API — for filtered work, download the relevant slice and filter locally. Full docs at your API page.

Can I get notified when a dataset updates?

Yes. Add a webhook in Account → API keys → Webhooks and we POST a dataset.updated event each time the daily export refreshes, listing which datasets changed. Your job then pulls the fresh file via the download API.

Privacy & legal

GDPR, redactions, and what you can do with the data.

Is the data GDPR-compliant?

Yes. We only include publicly available WHOIS, RDAP and DNS data. Personal data is redacted where the registrar requires it (per GDPR Art. 6 / 14 / EDPB guidance). A Data Processing Agreement is available on request — included by default for All-data customers.

Can I use the data for outbound email / cold outreach?

You can use it for prospecting and research, but you're responsible for your own outreach legality (CAN-SPAM in the US, GDPR Art. 6 in the EU, etc.). We don't include personal email addresses in our datasets — only registrar-provided contact channels and abuse contacts where they're public.

Can I redistribute or resell the data?

Internal use within your company is fine. Redistribution, reselling, or building a competing product on top of our data is not — see the Terms of use. If you have a use case in mind that needs redistribution rights, talk to sales.

Account

Login, password, team access.

I forgot my password.

Use the password reset flow. We'll email a one-time reset link (valid 30 minutes). Resetting your password doesn't affect your dataset access or your active sessions.

Can I add team members?

Yes. Invite up to 5 teammates from Account → Settings → Team on any plan. Each member gets their own login but shares the same dataset access and download history.

How do I delete my account?

From Account → Settings → Danger zone. Deletion is permanent and removes downloads history, API keys and saved card. Active dataset access continues until expiry — we don't refund unused access on deletion.

Still need a hand?

Three ways to reach a human.
