About Fusion Ads
Ad tags get pasted into a template once and almost never taken out again. A publisher adds the snippet, forgets it, redesigns around it, and the markup keeps loading long after the money behind it stopped moving. Fusion Ads is a clean example of what that habit leaves behind.
The network began in 2008, selling curated banner placements on sites read by designers and developers rather than by a general audience, and the pitch to advertisers rested on the quality of that readership instead of its volume. The vendor recorded against the product today is BuySellAds rather than an independent company of its own, which is what an acquisition looks like inside a technology index once the acquired brand stops being sold separately. No live vendor address survives for it in our data either.
Detection worked, and still works, through the ad tag on the publisher side. An advertising network is visible on the sites that displayed its banners and never on the advertisers who paid for them, so an Advertising entry of this kind maps supply and not demand. As of October 2026 the fingerprint is present on 1 site, which is roughly what a retired network should look like: a residue of old template code sitting on pages built while the network was still selling.
A residue is more useful than it sounds. Sites still carrying a dead ad tag are sites whose templates have not been revisited in years, which is a maintenance signal, a security consideration wherever the tag still resolves to a third-party host, and a fair proxy for a publisher operation that wound down without switching off the lights. Anyone studying churn in the advertising industry gets a specific reading here as well, because the surviving pages record what the network's publisher base looked like at the moment it stopped growing.
Taking the whole list rather than checking a domain is the only way to read any of that. A lookup answers a question about a site you have already chosen. The download hands over the entire surviving footprint at once, with the country and top level domain behind each page, which is what you need when the object of study is the disappearance itself rather than any single publisher.
