Hosting is the one field in our dataset that is not about the page at all. Nothing in the HTML tells you who the invoice goes to. Attribution for DreamHost comes from infrastructure instead, mainly the name servers a domain delegates to, the address ranges its records resolve into, and the mail routing that usually follows the same account. Reading a hosting field means accepting that it describes an arrangement rather than a technology, and that an arrangement can be split across several providers in ways a single label flattens.

As of September 2026 we associate 1,099,369 domains with the provider, filed under Hosting. What the association implies is a purchasing relationship. Somebody holds an account, pays monthly or annually, and has an administrative contact on file, which is a materially different situation from a site that merely happens to include a script somebody added once. For anyone selling to site operators, hosting is the field that most reliably separates a maintained property from an abandoned one, because an abandoned property stops being paid for and eventually stops resolving.

A shared hosting population has a structure worth understanding before you buy the list. One account can carry dozens of domains, and the sites beneath it may have nothing in common beyond an owner or an agency. Counting domains and counting customers are not the same exercise, and our export counts domains. Anyone modelling addressable accounts should expect the domain figure to overstate the number of people behind it, and should plan to collapse rows by shared infrastructure before drawing a conclusion about market size.

DreamHost has been selling hosting since 1997, which is long enough for a customer base to have accumulated in layers. Providers of that vintage carry sites signed up in eras with very different expectations about performance, control panels and managed services, and the layers show up in what those sites are running rather than in the hosting field itself. United States accounts for 811,264 of the domains and the extension mix concentrates on .com, consistent with a provider whose market is domestic small business, independent publishing and freelance development work. The service is Proprietary in the ordinary commercial sense, so nothing about the arrangement is inspectable from outside beyond where the packets go.

Competitive questions are what make a hosting list worth downloading. Which domains on a given provider run a stack that provider is not well suited to serve, which is a support cost for one company and a pitch for another. Which are running software old enough to suggest the account is dormant and the renewal is at risk. Which moved away during the last crawl cycle and where they landed, a question no per domain lookup can answer, because movement is a difference between two snapshots and a lookup only ever returns one. Our file gives the domain, the inferred provider, the rest of the detected stack and the crawl date. Run it against your own account list and you get the overlap you already own, the remainder you do not, and a repeatable way to watch the boundary between them move.
