There is a difference between the mail a company sends because a server decided to send it and the mail it sends because a person clicked send. Mailchimp is the second kind, and unlike most transactional infrastructure it leaves marks on the page. Embedded subscribe forms posting to the platform's list endpoints, a popup script, hosted landing pages and campaign archive links are all visible to a crawler, which makes this one of the few marketing decisions that can be read from the outside.

Reading it tells you about an organisation rather than a stack. A subscribe form means somebody believes an owned audience is worth building, somebody is responsible for growing it, and there is probably a budget line for content. The choice is usually made by marketing without consulting engineering, which is why it correlates weakly with the rest of the technology on the domain and strongly with company type. Small and mid-sized businesses, agencies, non-profits, creators and local commerce dominate the picture.

The stack correlation being weak is itself useful. A marketing tool that appears across every kind of underlying technology gives you a segmentation axis that cuts sideways through the usual ones, which means you can hold the platform constant and vary the content management system, the host or the country to ask what actually predicts adoption.

Founded in 2001 and now part of Intuit, the platform has been available long enough, and free enough at the entry tier, to accumulate an enormous tail of accounts that were opened once and never really used. The dataset inherits that tail. A form embedded in a footer years ago stays in the markup long after the last campaign went out, so presence measures installation rather than activity, and anyone using the list for outreach should expect a meaningful share of dormant deployments.

As of September 2026 we see 796,238 sites carrying it, 373,097 of them in United States, with .com the domain ending we record against it most often. The distribution follows the shape of the small business web rather than the enterprise web, which matters when an addressable market gets sized from these numbers, because the rows are numerous and individually small.

Competing senders, agencies pitching migration and data vendors enriching company records all want the same cut of this population, and none of them can get it from a lookup tool. What answers their question is a file. Every domain running the platform, with its country, its domain ending and the rest of its detected stack beside it, filtered to a vertical or a region and compared against an earlier snapshot to expose the sites that recently added a form or quietly removed one. Movement is the signal that a single point-in-time check cannot produce, and movement is usually more commercially useful than the total.

One more limit is worth stating plainly. A site can run campaigns on this platform while embedding nothing, using only hosted forms and links that never touch its own markup, so the file is a sample of visible deployments rather than a customer list.
