A social button is one of the cheapest things a website can add, and low cost is what makes a Pinterest detection need careful reading before it goes into a target list.

What the crawler sees falls into a few different classes. A save button dropped in by a theme, a pin or a board embedded inside an article, and a conversion tag installed to measure advertising all register as the same row. The first is an inherited default, the last is a spending decision, and the distance between them is most of the interpretive work.

Social rows are also worth reading against each other rather than one at a time. Which platforms a market's sites carry, and which they have quietly dropped, describes a channel mix that no advertising vendor publishes, and comparing several such rows across the same domain list is how that mix becomes visible. A single platform column answers a narrow question, while the same column set beside its neighbours answers where an industry believes its customers actually are.

The caveat is persistence. Buttons and tags outlive the strategy that installed them, so presence proves a decision was made at some point and proves nothing about whether an account is active or spending now. Recovering a real signal takes intersection: a site carrying the conversion tag plus a shop platform plus other advertising pixels is a different prospect from a site carrying nothing but a theme's row of share icons. A per-domain lookup returns the weakest possible version of this fact, since one domain gives you no way to tell a default from a choice. The downloadable list is what lets the intersection be run across an entire market at once, which is the only way this particular row becomes worth acting on.
