About Cufon
Cufon is a JavaScript-based font replacement library that was widely used in the late 2000s and early 2010s to render custom typefaces in web browsers before native CSS font embedding became widely supported. It converts fonts into a canvas- or VML-based rendering format, allowing designers to use custom typography without relying on images.
While Cufon was a popular solution in its era, it has been largely superseded by CSS @font-face, Google Fonts, and web font services. Sites still running Cufon are typically older properties that have not been updated to modern web standards. The project is no longer actively maintained.
