About Twitter Emoji (Twemoji)
Twemoji is an open-source emoji library originally developed by Twitter (now X Corp) that provides a consistent set of emoji graphics across all platforms and browsers. The library replaces native OS emoji with a standardized set of SVG or PNG images, ensuring that emoji render identically regardless of the device or operating system used by the end user.
Twemoji is widely used by websites, web applications, and platforms that want uniform emoji rendering, particularly to avoid inconsistencies between Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android native emoji designs. The library is available as a JavaScript package via CDN or npm and is open source under a combination of MIT (code) and CC-BY 4.0 (graphics) licenses. Major platforms including Discord have used Twemoji as their emoji rendering engine.
