About A-Frame

Most frameworks on the web are chosen to build pages. A-Frame is chosen to build rooms. The framework renders three dimensional and virtual reality scenes inside an ordinary browser tab, using a markup syntax that lets a web developer place objects in space without writing graphics code by hand. A site that ships it has committed to an experience rather than to a layout.

The commitment shapes who appears in our data. Mozilla released the framework in 2015 under the MIT licence, and adoption has been project shaped ever since: museum exhibits, product configurators, campaign microsites, training material, university coursework. Work of that kind is commissioned, delivered and then left running, which is a different rhythm from a platform a company adopts and maintains. As of October 2026 we detect A-Frame on 451 sites in our JavaScript graphics data.

Version numbers show the same rhythm from another angle. We record 24 distinct versions in the wild, and the release we observe most often is 1.5.0. A spread that broad for a framework of this size reflects scenes built for a launch and never revisited, because a finished exhibit has no reason to track upstream releases. Anyone reading version age as a health metric should account for that, since in this ecosystem an old version usually means a finished project rather than a neglected one.

Detection is biased by where these scenes live.
