Acerca de A-Frame

La mayoría de los frameworks de la web se eligen para construir páginas. A-Frame se elige para construir habitaciones. El framework renderiza escenas tridimensionales y de realidad virtual dentro de una pestaña de navegador corriente, con una sintaxis de marcado que permite a un desarrollador web colocar objetos en el espacio sin escribir código gráfico a mano. Un sitio que lo incorpora ha apostado por una experiencia y no por una maquetación.

La apuesta moldea quién aparece en nuestros datos. Mozilla publicó el framework en 2015 bajo la licencia MIT, y la adopción ha tenido forma de proyecto desde entonces: exposiciones de museo, configuradores de producto, microsites de campaña, material de formación, trabajos universitarios. Un encargo así se entrega y luego se deja funcionando, un ritmo distinto del de una plataforma que una empresa adopta y mantiene. Los números de versión muestran el mismo ritmo desde otro ángulo. Registramos 24 versiones distintas en circulación, y la que observamos con más frecuencia es 1.5.0. Una dispersión tan amplia para un framework de este tamaño refleja escenas construidas para un lanzamiento y nunca revisadas, porque una exposición terminada no tiene motivo para seguir las nuevas versiones del proyecto original. Quien lea la antigüedad de la versión como métrica de salud debería tenerlo en cuenta, ya que en este ecosistema una versión antigua suele significar un proyecto terminado y no uno descuidado.

La detección está sesgada por el lugar donde viven estas escenas. Un recorrido virtual o un configurador suele ser una ruta dentro de un sitio mayor, a la que se llega desde un botón de una página de marketing, así que un rastreo que ve la puerta de entrada se pierde la habitación de detrás. Los sitios que listamos son los que exponen el framework en una página que llegamos a descargar, y el número real de escenas publicadas es mayor. El framework es JavaScript ejecutándose sobre la pila gráfica del propio navegador, y por eso se puede identificar: el código tiene que llegar a la página antes de poder ejecutarse.

Lo que responde la exportación es una pregunta sobre un mercado joven. El trabajo de web inmersiva está repartido entre agencias, instituciones y estudios independientes, sin directorio y sin rastro de contratación, y no hay manera de reunir el campo comprobando dominios de uno en uno. Una lista de todos los sitios donde se vio el framework le da a un proveedor de herramientas su base de usuarios real, le da a una agencia una vista de quién más entrega este trabajo y para quién, y le da a un investigador una muestra de instalaciones reales que estudiar en lugar de una galería de demostraciones. Para una tecnología tan especializada, la población es el hallazgo.
