YUI (Yahoo User Interface Library) is a set of JavaScript utilities and UI widgets developed by Yahoo for building rich, interactive web applications. Released as an open-source project in 2006, YUI provided tools for DOM manipulation, event handling, animation, AJAX communication, and a comprehensive suite of UI components.
At its peak, YUI was one of the most widely used JavaScript libraries on the web, widely adopted by large-scale web applications and enterprises. Yahoo officially retired YUI in 2014, halting further development, as the JavaScript ecosystem evolved toward newer frameworks and the modular npm ecosystem. While no longer actively maintained, YUI can still be found embedded in legacy web applications and websites that have not yet migrated to modern alternatives.
