About Ushahidi
Ushahidi is an open-source crisis mapping and data collection platform originally developed in 2008 to map reports of post-election violence in Kenya. It allows organizations to collect information from the public via SMS, email, and web forms, and visualize it on an interactive map in real time. The platform has been used globally for disaster response, election monitoring, human rights documentation, and public health tracking.
Maintained by the Ushahidi nonprofit organization, the platform is widely used by NGOs, journalists, governments, and humanitarian organizations. Its open-source nature and low-cost deployment model make it accessible to resource-constrained organizations operating in challenging environments.
