About sIFR
sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) is a legacy web typography technique that used Adobe Flash and JavaScript to render custom fonts on web pages before native font embedding was widely supported. It replaced plain HTML text with Flash-rendered text styled in a chosen font, preserving accessibility by keeping the original HTML markup intact.
Developed in the early 2000s, sIFR was widely adopted for decorative headings and brand typography on websites. It has been deprecated and replaced by modern CSS font-face and web font services, and is no longer in active use on modern websites.
