About Project Wonderful
Project Wonderful was an online advertising network founded by Ryan North in 2006, designed to serve the webcomics and independent creator community. It operated on a unique continuous auction model where advertisers bid in real time to run ads for a specified duration rather than paying per click or impression.
Project Wonderful became popular among webcomic creators, indie game developers, and small online publishers because it offered transparent pricing, community-focused targeting, and low minimum bids. The platform allowed site owners to set reserve prices and approve or reject advertisers. After more than a decade of operation serving niche creative communities, Project Wonderful shut down in August 2018 when the economics of small-format display advertising became unviable.
