Page builders occupy a specific position in the web economy, and Elementor is among the clearest examples. It exists so that people who are not developers can produce layouts that previously required one, which means its presence on a site tells you something about who built the site rather than about what the site does.

As of September 2026 we detect it on 7,723,721 sites. The builder population is overwhelmingly made up of small businesses, freelancers and small agencies working on a budget that does not stretch to custom front-end work, and that profile is more commercially useful than the technology itself.

There is a trade underneath the tool that shows up in the data. Builders generate markup at runtime and carry a substantial amount of code to support editing, so the resulting sites tend to be heavier and slower than hand-built equivalents. That creates a predictable secondary market in performance plugins, caching layers and optimisation services, and the export shows you which sites have already bought into that market and which have not.

We currently see 1,837 distinct version strings in production with 4.1.4 the most common. Because the tool updates through the platform's own plugin mechanism, version lag here is a direct measure of how often somebody logs in and applies updates, which is a cleaner maintenance signal than most because the update path requires no technical skill at all. Falling behind is a choice about attention rather than capability.

For agencies the practical query is a compound one: sites built with a page builder, running an old version of it, carrying commercial signals like analytics or payment tooling, in a target geography. Each condition removes a category of unqualified prospect, and running four filters over a full population is trivial locally and prohibitive against a metered directory.

There is a further pattern in this population that repays attention. Builder-made sites frequently carry a recognisable combination of supporting plugins, because the tutorials and starter kits that introduce the builder recommend the same additions. Those combinations act as fingerprints for the source of the build, and often for the individual agency or freelancer who produced it.

That matters commercially because it converts a list of sites into a list of builders. One agency may be responsible for hundreds of rows in this population, and reaching the agency is a single conversation that covers all of them. Finding those clusters requires grouping the full population by its surrounding stack, which is a local operation over a downloaded file and is not something any per-domain lookup service will do for you.

Elementor distributes it under the GPL v3 license and it has been available since 2016. Because it is installed through a plugin directory rather than sold as a hosted product, no complete list of the sites running it exists on the vendor side either.
