About BEM
BEM is not software. Nothing is installed, no vendor ships a runtime, and there is no request a crawler can wait for. What Yandex published in 2009 was a naming discipline for markup and stylesheets, built around blocks, elements and modifiers written into class names so that components stay independent and specificity conflicts stop compounding as a codebase grows.
Detection therefore works differently here, and saying so matters more than the number does. We infer the convention from the shape of class names in delivered markup, which makes the count inferential in both directions. A team that follows the discipline loosely, or renames it into a house convention, will be missed entirely. A site built from a purchased template written in the style will be counted even if nobody involved has heard of the methodology. Anyone treating the figure as a census of teams who deliberately adopted the approach will overstate their case.
The UI frameworks label is a taxonomy artefact rather than a description of anything. There is no package to install and no dependency to audit. The language that matters is CSS rather than anything that executes, and the Open Source status simply reflects that the specification and its supporting tools were published openly instead of sold.
As of September 2026 the pattern appears in the markup of 4,065 sites. The population is useful mainly as a sample frame. Tooling vendors and design system consultancies can find codebases that already carry a formal component convention, which is a different sales conversation from one with a team that has never structured its stylesheets at all. Researchers studying how front end practice looks in production, rather than how conference talks describe it, get a corpus they can join against frameworks, build tools and preprocessors detected on the same domains.
Used as evidence about markup, the list holds up well. Used as a measure of deliberate methodology adoption, it will mislead you, and no amount of crawling will fix that, because intent does not travel over HTTP.
