About BEM
BEM (Block Element Modifier) is a CSS naming methodology and front-end architecture approach developed by Yandex to improve code readability, reusability, and maintainability in large-scale web projects. It structures class names into blocks, elements, and modifiers to create independent, composable UI components.
Introduced by Yandex in the late 2000s, BEM has become a widely adopted naming convention in the front-end development community. It is not a library or framework but a disciplined approach to writing CSS that reduces specificity conflicts and makes component relationships explicit. BEM is commonly used alongside preprocessors like Sass and CSS Modules, and is especially popular in enterprise-scale applications and design systems.
