A few technologies draw a map. Liveinternet is one of them, because the counter spread along a language and a media culture rather than along a technical trend, and the shape of its footprint says more about an audience than about the code.

The counter itself is a small script, historically paired with a visible button, that reports pageviews and referrers to a public statistics service. Sites here fall in the Analytics group because the service sells and displays audience data rather than because the script serves banners. The caveats are real and specific. A counter is installed once and rarely removed, so the population skews toward older sites and toward publishers who stopped touching their templates years ago. Detection can confirm that the script is on the page but cannot tell whether the account behind it still collects anything or whether the public statistics page still updates. Anyone using the count as a measure of an active analytics market should discount it accordingly, and anyone using it as a map of where a language publishes on the web can take it more or less as it stands.

The people who need this list are usually building a picture of a regional internet rather than checking one domain. Market researchers size the addressable base for localised products, analytics vendors look for sites still running a legacy counter, infrastructure researchers study which third party scripts a whole national web depends on, and academic work on media concentration uses counter adoption as a sampling frame. A lookup on a single domain returns a yes or a no.
