About Amazon Associates
Amazon Associates is not a technology in the engineering sense, and that is precisely what makes the detection valuable. Nothing is installed, nothing runs, no server is provisioned. A tag is appended to outbound links, and from that point the site earns a share of whatever those links sell.
Amazon has run the programme since 1996, and it stays firmly Proprietary, which is to say the rules, the commission structure and the tracking all belong to the vendor and can change without the publisher's agreement. Presence on a domain says very little about how the site was built and a great deal about how it pays for itself.
