A plugin that shows up across 308 distinct release strings is telling you something about the people who installed it rather than about the software itself. MonsterInsights auto-updates for anyone who leaves updates enabled, so a healthy site converges quickly on whatever release is current, and 11.1.3 accounts for a large share of what we see. The long tail underneath is the interesting part. Every old string in that tail is a WordPress site where automatic updates are off, an agency has pinned the stack, or nobody has logged in for a very long time.

Segmenting maintained sites from unmaintained ones is a question most technology data cannot answer, and here it falls out of the version column directly. A security vendor wants the tail. A managed hosting company wants the tail, because unmaintained sites are the ones that break and churn. A competing analytics plugin wants the head, because those owners are actually paying attention and can be persuaded to switch.

Presence also implies a specific stack underneath. The plugin only exists to connect WordPress to Google Analytics, so a detection means PHP on the server, WordPress underneath it, Google's tracking already in place, and an owner who wanted Analytics reporting inside the admin dashboard rather than in Google's own interface. Preferring the dashboard is a meaningful trait: it points to a non-technical or time-poor operator, usually a small business or a marketing team without an analyst, which is exactly the buyer profile for a large amount of WordPress-adjacent software.

There is a privacy dimension worth noting too. A plugin whose entire purpose is to route visitor behaviour into a third-party analytics service sits directly in the path of consent regulation, and the population is therefore a natural sampling frame for anyone studying how tracking is deployed and disclosed on small commercial sites. Researchers and compliance vendors tend to want the same thing here that marketers want, which is the full list rather than a sample, because prevalence claims made from a few hundred hand-picked domains do not survive scrutiny.

The limit worth being direct about is the free-versus-paid boundary. Detection reads what the plugin puts in the page, and the free edition and the commercial editions share that surface, so the list cannot tell you who is a customer. Anyone using this for competitive sizing should treat the total as installed base, not revenue base. There is a second and smaller caveat: a plugin can be installed, deactivated, and left in place, and deactivated plugins mostly stop emitting anything detectable, so the population skews toward sites where the integration is genuinely live. A per-domain check confirms one site. The list is what lets you ask how much of an installed base runs behind the current release, which of those sites also run a commerce plugin, and how that breaks down by country before you commit a sales team to it.
