About Vultr

Hosting is the one technology on a site that the site's owner frequently cannot name. A domain lands on a given provider because a developer, an agency or a managed service picked it, and the decision leaves no trace in the page itself. Attribution works from the other direction, through address ownership and network routing rather than markup, which makes it more reliable than fingerprinting and at the same time blunter about what it proves.

Vultr sells virtual machines, bare metal servers, managed databases and object storage from data centres spread across several continents, priced by the hour and provisioned through an API instead of a sales conversation. Founded in 2014 and recorded in our catalogue under The Constant Company as a Proprietary service, the company competes for the developer who would otherwise take the default option at a hyperscaler and who wants fewer moving parts and a bill that can be predicted in advance.

As of September 2026 we see 30,302 sites served from the provider's network. The population behind that figure is not one kind of customer. A single virtual machine here might carry a personal project, an agency's entire client portfolio, a staging environment, a mail relay, or the API behind an application whose public site lives somewhere else entirely. Cheap self-service compute attracts a long tail, and the long tail is precisely what makes the data interesting to anyone studying where the smaller half of the web actually runs.

United States accounts for 12,317 of the sites we attribute to the network, and .com recurs throughout. Location in hosting data means where a site is served from as much as where its owner sits, and on a network selling capacity in many regions those two things come apart. A studio in one country routinely runs client sites out of a data centre on another continent, which is worth remembering before reading the country column as a map of demand.

Attribution by network carries its own limits. A site behind a reverse proxy or a CDN can conceal its origin completely, and an address block that changes hands moves a whole set of domains with it, so any snapshot is a snapshot of that moment.

Even so, the list answers questions a per-domain lookup cannot. For a competing provider it is a migration target list with the stack already attached. For a security team it shows how much of a supply chain rests on one network. For a sales team it separates the agencies running many domains from the owners running one, which is the difference between a partner conversation and a customer conversation. Our export carries the domain, the country, the suffix and everything detected on top of the infrastructure, which is where hosting data stops being a technical curiosity and starts being commercially useful.
