About Tachyons
Front-end libraries are useful for dating a website. Tachyons arrived in 2014, several years before utility-first CSS became a default way to style an interface, and it made the argument early, with single-purpose classes composed in markup instead of hand-written stylesheets. The approach later won under other names, which leaves the library in an unusual position. A site still serving it is rarely a site that chose it last month.
Version data makes the point concretely. We track 30 distinct releases in the wild, and the release we record most often is 4.12.0, a late one from a project that reached stability and then stopped needing changes. A framework that no longer moves does not force upgrades, so installs freeze at whatever was current on the day the site shipped. Reading the version spread across the population is close to reading a build date.
License terms explain the long tail. The library is MIT licensed, small enough to copy into a build and free of any commercial relationship, so nothing pulls a maintainer back to it. Nobody sends a renewal notice for a stylesheet.
Detection has to be honest about what it can see. We identify the framework when its stylesheet loads from a recognizable path or CDN URL, which is also where the version string comes from. Sites that compile the classes into one bundle, strip unused rules or rename the output leave nothing to match, and those sites tend to be the ones with a real build pipeline.
