About Mailjet

Email software is mostly invisible from the outside. A message leaves a server, and nothing in the page a visitor loads has to reveal which platform sent it. Mailjet is detectable because of the part of the product that does touch the page, which is subscription forms, embedded widgets and assets served from the vendor's own domains.

The platform started in Paris in 2010 as a Email service covering both campaign sending and transactional mail, and it is Proprietary. Ownership has moved on since then, and the service now sits under Sinch alongside other messaging brands, which is worth knowing if you are matching our vendor field against a company list rather than against the brand a site displays.

A site with an email platform wired into it is a site collecting addresses, and collecting addresses is a commitment to a lifecycle or marketing programme that somebody has to run week after week. The choice of platform narrows the picture further. A European headquartered sender is often picked for data residency, invoicing or support language reasons, so the population leans toward businesses with European operations or European customers even where the domain itself gives no hint of that.

The obvious use of the file is competitive. Deliverability and consent researchers want the same population for a different reason, since the platform behind a signup form determines how permission is captured and how unsubscribes are honoured.

The caveat should come before any of that. We only see the platform when the site exposes it in the page. A company using the service purely for transactional mail through an API, with no embedded form and no vendor hosted asset, stays invisible to us and never reaches the file. There is no version to filter on either, because the service is hosted and updates on the vendor's side. What the file contains is the set of sites where the platform reached the front end, which is a solid list and an incomplete one, and saying so is more useful than a confident number we cannot stand behind.
