Finding SoundCloud on a domain does not mean the domain belongs to a musician. What gets detected is the embeddable player, the block of markup a publisher drops into a page to play audio that lives on somebody else's servers.

The distinction matters for how the data can be used. A site carrying the player is publishing audio, while the audio itself is hosted, transcoded and delivered by SoundCloud, so nothing in the detection describes the site's own stack. Presence is a content signal instead of an infrastructure signal, and content signals are the harder kind to buy anywhere else.

SoundCloud has run the platform since 2007, and the code behind it is Proprietary, so publishers interact with it only through the embed and the documented widget interface. The result is that the player turns up in a very particular set of places. Record labels and artist pages use it, podcast and community radio sites use it, promoters and venues use it to preview line-ups, and schools, churches and conferences use it to publish recordings. Almost none of those operators would describe themselves as media companies, which is exactly why a list of them is hard to assemble by hand.

As of September 2026 the player appears on 38,689 sites, 22,451 of them in United States, with registrations weighted toward the .com zone. Concentration of that kind describes the domain population we crawl rather than where audio publishing happens, and sites in smaller markets are more likely to embed a local service or host the file themselves, so the geographic picture describes our sample more than it describes the medium.

Embeds age badly, and saying so is worth more than the count on its own. A player dropped into a blog post stays in the HTML for years after the account behind it goes quiet, so the population mixes active publishing with archaeology. Pushing the other way, embeds injected by scripts or held back until a reader scrolls can be missed entirely. The figure is best read as a floor on audio publishing, gathered from pages as they are actually served.

The people who want this list are rarely trying to look up one site. Music industry analysts want to know where independent audio is being promoted, podcast tooling vendors want publishers who already embed a player from somebody else, and advertisers want inventory sitting next to audio content. Checking a single domain answers a curiosity. The export answers which corners of the web publish sound at all, and that set is not written down anywhere in one piece.
