Gutenberg is the block-based editor introduced in WordPress 5.0, replacing the classic TinyMCE editor with a modern, component-driven content creation experience. Named after Johannes Gutenberg, it allows users to build rich page layouts using a library of content blocks — paragraphs, images, galleries, embeds, columns, and more — without requiring custom code or page builder plugins.

Gutenberg is developed by Automattic and the wider WordPress open-source community. Beyond posts and pages, the Full Site Editing initiative extends Gutenberg's block model to headers, footers, and entire theme templates, enabling visual theme customization across a WordPress site. It is included as the default editor in all modern WordPress installations.
