About SharpSpring

Marketing automation leaves fingerprints on a website whether or not anyone intends it to. A visitor tracking script, forms that post to an outside endpoint, landing pages served from a vendor domain. SharpSpring leaves all three, which is the only reason a platform of this kind is visible from outside at all. The product arrived in 2012 as an agency oriented alternative to the enterprise marketing suites, with white labelling that let agencies resell it under their own brand, and today it sits inside Constant Contact following an acquisition.

Finding the tracker on a site tells you two separate things. The company runs lead capture and nurture, so somebody there owns a pipeline and the budget attached to it. Beyond that, the account very probably arrived through an agency rather than a direct sale, which changes what you would be competing against: a service relationship with a partner who built the campaigns, not just a software subscription that can be swapped. Agencies also migrate clients in batches, so a cluster of sites sharing one implementation partner behaves nothing like a scattering of unrelated direct customers.

Version data sharpens the picture further. We count 9 distinct versions of the embed in circulation and most often resolve 2.0.1, and because the snippet is pasted into a template and then forgotten, the version on a page works as a rough date stamp for when the marketing site was last rebuilt. A site carrying an old snippet and a newer one together is usually a migration that stalled, which is a specific and searchable condition rather than a vague signal.

Ownership changes make lists like this perishable in a useful way. After an acquisition some accounts get migrated onto the buyer's other products, some stay on the original platform for years because nothing forces a move, and some quietly leave for a competitor. Comparing who still carries the script today against who carried it in an earlier snapshot is how those three groups separate, and the separation exists only in aggregate.

As of September 2026 we detect SharpSpring on 1,397 sites in our Marketing automation records, and the count is conservative by construction. Tracking scripts are increasingly proxied through first party domains, forms are embedded in ways that hide the vendor entirely, and some accounts run only on campaign landing pages that the main site never links to. Checking one domain answers whether a single company is a customer. The export answers who the customers are as a group, which platforms and countries they sit in, what other marketing tooling loads beside the tracker, and which of them look like agency portfolios rather than independent buyers, which is the difference between a prospect list and a target account list.
