Embedded forms outlive the people who add them. Wufoo has been collecting submissions since 2006, long enough that a form still live on a page today was often placed there by a marketing team that has since moved on, on a page nobody has meaningfully edited in years.

SurveyMonkey acquired the product, which changes how the install base ought to be read. A form builder owned by a larger survey company still signs up new accounts and still carries paid plans, so the population mixes embeds placed years ago with recent ones, and presence on its own does not date a site. The Proprietary service is hosted, so every embed points back at the vendor's own endpoints rather than at code sitting on the customer's server.

As of September 2026 the Form builders tool appears on 2,091 sites. Persistence is a large part of what such a count records, and stickiness is the property that makes the population interesting. Replacing a working form means rebuilding it, remapping where submissions go, reconnecting whatever automation depends on them and testing the whole chain, which is exactly the friction that keeps old embeds alive years past the decision that created them.

Competing form and survey vendors get the obvious use, a displacement list where the incumbent is known and the switching cost is understood. A second audience is less obvious. Privacy and security researchers get a map of where form submissions leave a site, because an embedded builder means personal data typed by a visitor is posted to a third-party endpoint under someone else's terms, which matters for data-flow mapping, consent notices and vendor inventories.

Comparing snapshots is where a long established tool becomes genuinely informative. A hosted form service gains and loses embeds at a rate the sites themselves reveal, and watching which domains drop the embed, which replace it with a competitor and which simply go quiet says more about the market than any vendor announcement does.

Detection reads embed scripts, iframes and form targets on pages we can reach. Forms behind a login, inside a checkout or buried in a deep section are missed, and a dormant embed on a forgotten page counts the same as a busy one. The list is a research starting point, not a verified customer roster. What it answers, and what no per-domain lookup can, is not whether a given company uses the tool but who all of them are, taken together, and how that group shrinks or holds steady over time.
