About UptimeRobot

Monitoring is an unusual category, because the technology does not live on the site it watches. UptimeRobot checks a URL from outside at a fixed interval and alerts someone when a check fails, and none of that requires code in the monitored page. The sites where we detect the service are therefore not the sites it monitors. The visible surface is elsewhere: hosted status pages, embedded uptime badges, public incident histories and the status subdomains that companies publish so customers can look for themselves.

The gap belongs in front of any figure. As of September 2026 we detect UptimeRobot on 3,161 sites, and the number of endpoints actually being monitored is far higher, because a monitor is configured in a dashboard and leaves no trace in the HTML of the thing it watches. The count measures publication rather than usage. The figure should be understood as the population that chose to expose monitoring publicly, which is a meaningful segment in itself and not the same thing as a customer base.

What the visible subset tells you is still worth having. A company that publishes a status page has an audience it feels obliged to inform, which usually means paying customers, an API or a service with a contract behind it. A company running free tier checks and publishing the results is typically small, technical and cost conscious. UptimeRobot has offered the product on a Freemium basis since 2010, so the population stretches from hobby projects to businesses that never upgraded, and the free tier explains much of the reach across the small end of the web.

For a competing monitoring vendor, an incident management platform or a status page product, that population is a prospect list with the qualification already done, because every domain in it has demonstrated that somebody there cares about uptime enough to publish it. For an infrastructure researcher, the same rows show how observability tooling reaches small sites, which is where most surveys stop looking.

The download is what makes any of it actionable. Checking one domain at a time tells you what a company you already identified is using, which is verification rather than discovery. Our export inverts the question and hands over every domain where the service was detected, with country, top level domain and the co present stack on each row, so the list can be narrowed to the segment a given offer fits before anyone writes a message.
