Em outubro de 2026 a biblioteca aparece em 660 518 sites, arrumada na categoria Font scripts, com 272 283 nos Estados Unidos e o sufixo .com a cobrir boa parte do restante. Uma distribuição com esta forma não diz quase nada sobre emoji e diz muito sobre onde está instalada a plataforma que a integra, o que é também a razão pela qual o registo serve para algo que não é tipografia.

O registo admite mais do que uma leitura. A primeira é a datação de coortes. Como a biblioteca seguia como predefinição da plataforma durante um determinado período de anos, passou depois a ser removível e é hoje habitualmente desativada por razões de desempenho, a sua presença ou ausência delimita aproximadamente quando foi configurada a plataforma de um site e quanto alguém a afinou desde então. Um site que ainda entrega uma camada completa de substituição de emoji é um site que ninguém otimizou.

A segunda leitura tem a ver com propriedade. O projeto foi disponibilizado em código aberto por uma empresa que entretanto mudou de mãos e mudou de nome, e os seus pontos de entrega de recursos alojados já foram movidos e retirados antes, o que é o ciclo de vida normal de um ponto de entrega gratuito ligado a uma empresa sem razão nenhuma para continuar a financiá-lo. Qualquer página que carregue as imagens de uma origem remota em vez de as agregar localmente carrega uma dependência de uma decisão que não controla, e isso é um facto de cadeia de fornecimento e não de design.

Quem precisa dessa população quer-na inteira. Os fornecedores de desempenho querem os sites que entregam uma camada de renderização desnecessária. As empresas de manutenção e de migração querem a coorte de plataforma que a biblioteca identifica. Quem audita pedidos a terceiros quer todas as páginas que vão buscar recursos a uma origem cujo dono já a descontinuou uma vez. Uma consulta a um domínio concreto não responde a nenhuma dessas perguntas, porque cada uma delas é uma pergunta sobre um grupo e não sobre um site, e o grupo é exatamente o que um ficheiro descarregável fornece, juntamente com o país, o sufixo do domínio e as outras tecnologias registadas para o mesmo servidor.

Os limites são banais, mas reais. Os sites que agregam os recursos localmente com outro nome de ficheiro podem escapar por completo à deteção, por isso a pegada é um limite inferior. A deteção também não consegue separar uma integração deliberada de uma predefinição da plataforma, e essa é exatamente a distinção que um leitor cuidadoso tem de trazer do contexto, olhando para o que mais o site executa. Usado como aproximação à geração da plataforma, o registo é fiável. Usado como medida de quem escolheu conscientemente uma biblioteca de emoji, exageraria bastante a intenção.
