Polymer is an open-source JavaScript library developed by Google for building web components and progressive web apps. Launched in 2013, Polymer was one of the first frameworks to embrace the Web Components standard, which includes Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML Templates. It provided a layer of abstraction to simplify the development of reusable, encapsulated UI components using web platform APIs.

Polymer played an influential role in promoting the Web Components ecosystem and helped shape the standards themselves. However, as native browser support for Web Components improved and newer frameworks such as LitElement (Polymer's spiritual successor, also from Google) emerged, active development on Polymer itself was deprecated in favor of Lit. Many applications built on Polymer continue to run in production, particularly on enterprise and Google-affiliated properties.
