Octopress is a blogging framework built on top of Jekyll, the static site generator, designed to make it easier to create and deploy blogs from the command line. Originally created by Brandon Mathis around 2009, Octopress adds a layer of conventions, themes, and deployment tooling on top of Jekyll, targeting developers and technical writers who prefer writing in Markdown.

Octopress generates static HTML files that can be hosted on GitHub Pages, Amazon S3, or any web server, resulting in fast, secure sites with no database dependency. While the project is no longer actively maintained and Jekyll itself has evolved considerably, Octopress played an important historical role in popularizing static site blogging among the developer community.
