Every detection here began with somebody hitting record. A screen walkthrough went into a product page, a help centre article, an onboarding flow or a careers post, and the player tag travelled into the markup with it, which makes a row here a record of what a team chose to explain rather than of what its website is built on. As of September 2026 that embed is visible on 219 sites in our Video players data.

What the embed reveals is a working habit rather than an architecture. Async video gets chosen by teams that are distributed, or that support customers without a phone line, or that ship product fast enough that written documentation lags behind. A help centre full of screen recordings usually belongs to a company whose users have to be shown an interface rather than told about it. The signal is closer to a company profile than to a technical one, which is why marketers and sales researchers care about it more than engineers do.

Ownership matters for anyone tracking the vendor landscape. Loom is a Proprietary product now under Atlassian, which folded it into a much wider collaboration suite after acquiring it. A site embedding the player is therefore a weak but real indicator of exposure to that suite, and the population is worth watching for movement as bundling changes buying decisions. Our record puts the first year for the product at 2015, which places its growth in the stretch when remote work turned recorded video into a normal internal medium.

The counting limits are unusually important here. Only public pages are visible to a crawler, and a great deal of async video lives in private workspaces, internal wikis and email, none of which we can see, so the detected population is a small and biased slice of real usage. Embeds also appear and disappear with a single page edit, which makes the figure more volatile than a count of server software. Anyone tracking this technology should compare successive crawls rather than trusting one snapshot.

A per-domain lookup tells you whether one company embeds the player. The downloadable list tells you which companies do, across the whole crawl, which is the input you need to build a prospect list of teams that already buy video tooling, to gather help centres for competitive research, or to study how a communication habit spreads through an industry. The useful work usually starts after the download, by filtering the population against the other technologies detected on the same domains.
