About GeneratePress GP Premium

Almost everything a scanner finds on a WordPress site is free. A paid add-on is a different kind of evidence, because somebody reached for a card to put it there.

GeneratePress GP Premium is the commercial extension to a lightweight theme, sold as an annual licence, released under GPL v2 in 2014 and written in PHP like the rest of that ecosystem. As of October 2026 we detect it on 31,706 sites. Every detection marks a builder who wanted a fast base theme with professional controls and was willing to pay for it rather than reach for a free page builder.

The kind of person that describes is quite narrow. Freelancers and small agencies building client sites, developers who care about page weight, and a scattering of technically confident owners. Corporate marketing departments rarely end up here, because they buy a design rather than a toolkit. As a proxy for the professional end of the self-hosted WordPress market, the marker is unusually clean.

Version data is where the population becomes commercially readable. We record 146 distinct version strings, and 2.5.6 still appears across a substantial part of the estate, a release from an earlier generation of the product. Updates to a licensed add-on require a valid key, so a site sitting several generations behind is usually not a site that chose to stay put. The renewal lapsed, the client stopped paying a retainer, or the agency that installed it moved on.

A lapsed licence is a specific and actionable state. For the maker of a competing theme or builder it identifies a site whose owner has already paid for tooling once and is currently unsupported. For an agency it identifies a property with an unmaintained commercial dependency and a plausible reason to make contact. For a security team it identifies a component that stopped receiving fixes on a knowable date. All three read the same version string differently, and none of the three can be answered by looking up one domain.

United States holds 13,728 of the detections and the .com zone carries the bulk of the remainder, following the English-language freelance market where the product is sold and discussed rather than any technical constraint.

Two limits apply. The add-on and the free base theme are separate things, and only the add-on indicates a purchase, so a site running the theme alone is not part of this population even though it looks similar from a distance. And the version we report is what the site discloses in its asset paths, which a caching or optimisation layer can rewrite or strip, so part of the estate reports nothing at all and sits outside the version analysis entirely.

The download is the whole detected population in one file, each domain with the version we saw, the country, the zone and the rest of the stack on the same row, rebuilt daily. Sorting it by version is a local operation that takes seconds and answers something no per-domain lookup reaches: not whether this one site runs an old licensed copy, but how many do, where they are, and who built them.
