About UIKit

Front end frameworks usually reach a website through a developer's preference. UIKit more often arrives inside a product somebody bought.

YOOtheme released the framework in 2013 under an MIT licence and uses it as the foundation of its own commercial themes and page builder, sold mainly into the Joomla and WordPress template markets. The consequence is that a large part of the installed base never made a framework decision at all. Somebody chose a template that looked right for a business, and the JavaScript and CSS underneath came along with it.

As of September 2026 we detect it on 443,880 sites, 139,013 of them registered in United States, with .com carrying much of the total. Knowing how the framework is distributed changes how that profile should be read. These are largely small and mid sized business sites, association and club pages, municipal and school sites, the kind of web presence commissioned once and then maintained for years rather than continuously developed by an in house team.

Detection relies on the framework's class names and its distributed file paths surviving into the delivered HTML. Builders that rewrite or purge unused classes can erase the fingerprint, and a bespoke build compiled from source often passes unnoticed. We are consequently better at finding theme driven installations than hand rolled ones, which reinforces exactly the skew described above and means the count leans toward the commissioned end of the market.

Seen that way the list becomes a prospect list for anyone selling to the long tail of built once websites. Maintenance and migration agencies use it to find sites running a stack whose owners have no developer on staff. Hosting providers use it to spot accounts likely to need managed updates rather than raw capacity. Competing template and page builder vendors use it to size the ecosystem they are trying to take share from, since a template framework's footprint is a reasonable proxy for the reach of the themes that ship it.

There is also a research use that has nothing to do with selling. The generation of front end frameworks that predates the component era is neither dead nor growing, and tracking whether it holds or erodes requires the whole population rather than a handful of examples. A per domain lookup tells you that one site uses it. The aggregate tells you whether an ecosystem is still worth building for.
