Brand guidelines used to be a document nobody could find. Frontify is one of the products that turned them into a website, and the shift is what makes the fingerprint interesting.

In our data Frontify sits under Digital asset management, which is a coarse fit. The product manages brand assets, logo libraries, typography and templates and then publishes them as a portal, so it behaves like a content system without being one in the way a marketing site is. Frontify AG ships it under a Proprietary license, and the product dates to 2013.

Detecting it on a public domain implies a specific kind of organisation. Software for governing a brand is bought by companies with enough teams, agencies and outside suppliers that inconsistency has become expensive, which usually means a dedicated brand or design function and a budget that treats consistency as an operational problem rather than a matter of taste. Presence on a reachable domain adds a second implication, namely that the organisation wants outsiders, partners or freelancers to be able to reach the guidelines without an account.

The caveat belongs right here. Undercounting is the expected behaviour of this detection, not an anomaly.

What survives that caveat is still useful, provided the list is read as a set. Vendors selling into brand and design operations get a population of companies that have already bought into managed brand infrastructure and therefore hold the budget line a competitor would need to displace. Agencies get a way to see which of their clients and prospects already run a portal. Anyone tracking the digital asset management market gets a measurable adoption signal that does not depend on vendor announcements. Comparisons like that need the whole population, since asking whether one company runs a brand portal tells you about one company and nothing about the market it sits in.
