Most infrastructure choices leave no trace in a page's markup. An image CDN is the exception, because the decision gets written into every image URL on the site. Imgix takes transformation instructions as query parameters, so resizing, cropping, format conversion and quality settings all sit in plain view in the delivered HTML, and detection is direct rather than inferred.

What the presence means commercially is straightforward. Someone is paying, per image or per unit of bandwidth, to run image handling outside their own application. Sites reach that point for recognisable reasons: a product catalogue full of photography, an editorial archive, user-uploaded media at a volume that made in-app processing a liability. A recurring infrastructure bill also implies a budget, an engineering team with authority to spend it, and a performance problem serious enough to justify both.

As of September 2026 we detect Imgix on 55,329 sites. The service comes from Imgix, is Proprietary and has been available since 2012, long enough that the installed base mixes recent adopters with integrations wired in during an earlier rebuild and never revisited since. The two groups are equally real, and they respond to very different messages.

36,589 of the detected sites are in United States, with domains clustering on .com. Commerce and media businesses are where image delivery costs become visible on a balance sheet, and both sectors are dense in the markets where paid infrastructure gets bought without a long procurement cycle. The domain suffix reinforces the reading, since commercial registration rather than regional registration is the norm across this population.

One honest limit: a site can point its own hostname at the service, and when it does the URL pattern survives but the vendor's domain disappears. Some of those deployments remain recognisable from parameter syntax and response behaviour, and some do not. The count runs low rather than high.

The reason to want the whole list instead of a single lookup is that this technology works as a proxy for something broader. Competing image and delivery services use it for displacement targeting. Digital asset management and commerce platforms use it as a qualified list of image-heavy businesses. Performance consultancies use it to find companies that have already accepted that image delivery is worth paying for, which removes the hardest step of the sale. Filtering by country, domain suffix and co-detected platform turns the export into a workable segment rather than a raw dump.
