Über .rip

.rip ist eine neue generische Top-Level-Domain mit doppelter Bedeutung, denn sie steht sowohl für das Kürzel „Rest in Peace“ als auch für eine allgemein gebräuchliche Abkürzung. Zunächst mit Gedenk- und Bestattungsdiensten verbunden, hat die TLD auch im technischen Umfeld Verbreitung gefunden, da RIP im Netzwerkbereich ebenfalls für „Routing Information Protocol“ steht und in der Netzsprache umgangssprachlich bedeutet, dass etwas beendet ist oder gescheitert ist.

2014 eingeführt und von Mind + Machine Idea Factory betrieben, steht .rip zur allgemeinen Registrierung offen.
