Priority Hints ist ein Web-Performance-Standard, der über das HTML-Attribut `fetchpriority` implementiert wird und es Entwicklern ermöglicht, dem Browser die relative Wichtigkeit von Ressourcenabrufen wie Bildern, Skripten und Links zu signalisieren. Indem Ressourcen als hoch- oder niedrigpriorisiert markiert werden, können Entwickler den Netzwerk-Scheduler des Browsers so steuern, dass kritische Assets schneller geladen und weniger wichtige zurückgestellt werden.
Priority Hints wurde vom W3C standardisiert und wird in Chromium-basierten Browsern sowie in Safari unterstützt. Der Standard ist besonders nützlich, um den Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) zu optimieren, indem die Abrufpriorität von Hero-Bildern im sichtbaren Bereich erhöht wird. Er wird zunehmend von performanceorientierten Entwicklungsteams eingesetzt und häufig automatisch von Tools und Frameworks zur Performance-Optimierung ausgespielt.
