Uvicorn is a lightning-fast ASGI (Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface) web server implementation for Python, built on top of uvloop and httptools. It is designed to serve Python web applications and APIs built with async frameworks such as FastAPI and Starlette, providing high concurrency and throughput compared to traditional WSGI servers like Gunicorn.

Uvicorn has become the de facto standard production server for FastAPI applications and is widely used in the Python web development ecosystem for building high-performance REST APIs and microservices. It supports HTTP/1.1 and WebSockets, and can be run standalone or behind a process manager like Gunicorn with a Uvicorn worker class.
