This service is intended only for query-based access. You agree that you will use this data only for lawful purposes and that, under no circumstances will you use this data to (a) allow, enable, or otherwise support the transmission by e-mail, telephone, or facsimile of mass unsolicited, commercial advertising or solicitations to entities other than the data recipient's own existing customers; or (b) enable high volume, automated, electronic processes that send queries or data to the systems of Identity Digital, a Registrar, or Registry Operator except as reasonably necessary to register domain names or modify existing registrations. When using the RDAP service, please consider the following: the RDAP service is not a replacement for standard EPP commands to the SRS service. RDAP is not considered authoritative for registered domain objects. The RDAP service may be scheduled for downtime during production or OT&E maintenance periods. Queries to the RDAP services are throttled. If too many queries are received from a single IP address within a specified time, the service will begin to reject further queries for a period of time to prevent disruption of RDAP service access. About Spree

A shop running Spree is usually an application first and a store second. The platform ships as a set of Ruby components that a developer mounts inside an existing Rails codebase, so adoption gets decided in an engineering meeting rather than by a marketing lead browsing an app store. The distinction colours everything a detection can tell you about the domain that carries it.

Start from the licence. Spree is BSD, which is permissive rather than reciprocal, and permissive licensing invites exactly the behaviour that makes detection hard: teams fork the storefront, rename the templates, strip the stock markup and ship something that no longer looks like the upstream project. The rows we can see are the installations that kept enough of the default front end to be recognised. Heavily customised builds sit outside the count, and there is no honest way to size that gap from the outside, so the figure should be read as a floor rather than a census.

Age is the other thing the record gives us. The project dates to 2007, old enough that a live installation today can mean a store maintained and upgraded across many releases, or a codebase frozen at whatever version the agency delivered before it moved on. We publish no version breakdown for this entry, because Ruby commerce code runs server side and rarely announces its release number to a crawler, so telling those cases apart means looking at the domains themselves.

Stewardship matters here as well. The project is maintained under Vendo Commerce, which puts an open codebase and a commercial company in the same sentence, and the arrangement tends to produce a specific kind of user: a business that wants source access and no licence fee, but also wants somebody to call. Merchants who fit that description usually sit in the mid market, employ or contract developers, and treat the storefront as software they own rather than a subscription they rent.

The commercial reading follows from there. A domain in this list is a business that pays developers, which makes it a plausible buyer for payment gateways, search and recommendation services, hosting built for Ruby applications, and agency work of every kind. A per-domain lookup can confirm that one competitor runs Spree. The list answers the population question instead: how many storefronts of this kind exist, what else they run alongside, which sectors they cluster in, and how the group changes as owners migrate on and off the platform. As of October 2026 the entry covers 1 site, a set small enough to work through by hand and specific enough to be worth the effort.

Frequently asked questions

How many websites use Spree?

webatla detects Spree on 1 website, refreshed daily, with its domain, DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.

Can I download the list of websites using Spree?

Yes, as structured JSONL. Grab a free sample first.

What's included for each site, and how fresh is it?

Domain, DNS, RDAP/WHOIS, the full technology stack, IP & country, PageRank and Harmonic, re-detected and re-exported daily.

How do I find the websites using Spree?

Buy the technology dataset, then download the complete list of domains we detect using Spree, re-exported every day.

What else is in the Spree technology data?

Each row places Spree next to the other technology on the same site, plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, country and ranking.

Can I download just the sites using Spree, or the whole database?

Both. Every site running Spree comes in the Technologies dataset, one downloadable file. Or buy All data for the entire database: technologies plus identity, ranking, DNS and RDAP/WHOIS for every domain, combined in one file. Daily fresh export.

How do I download the list of websites using Spree?

Three steps: (1) grab the free 10,000-row sample to inspect the schema, (2) buy the Technologies dataset, (3) download the full list of every domain we detect running Spree as a JSON Lines file. It is re-exported daily, so you can re-download the freshest list any time inside your access window. Each row carries the domain plus DNS, WHOIS, IP, hosting country and rank.
