About LottieFiles

Motion on the web used to mean a video file or a heavy sprite sheet. LottieFiles exists because designers wanted animation that scales cleanly, weighs almost nothing, and can be handed from a design tool to a developer without being redrawn by hand.

The format underneath it began as an open-source project at Airbnb, and LottieFiles built the platform, editor, marketplace and player around it. Animations ship as structured data and are rendered in the browser by a JavaScript player. The commercial model is Freemium, so a team can start without a purchase and grow into a paid plan later, which matters when you are reading presence as a buying signal rather than as a spending signal.

The technology is young by the standards of a dataset like this one, dating to 2017, and as of September 2026 the player is detectable on 126,777 sites. Adoption tracks the product and agency world rather than the general web. 95,155 of those sites are in United States, and .com carries most of the domains, which is the distribution you get from software companies, studios and funded startups rather than from local businesses with a brochure site.

What the marker really indicates is a team with a designer in it. Putting a Lottie animation on a page requires somebody to produce the animation, export it and hand it over, which means a design function exists and carries enough weight to get motion into a shipped product. Sites showing the player skew toward marketing pages built by studios, onboarding and empty-state flows inside web applications, and brands that treat interface craft as part of the offer. For anyone selling design tooling, front-end contracting, animation assets or performance work, that is a sharper filter than industry code or headcount.

The limit is that we see the player, not the animation. A site can load the library on a shared template and never render anything with it, and a team that self-hosts a stripped copy or compiles the renderer into an application bundle may not be recognisable at all, so the count leans conservative. Nothing in the signal reveals whether the account behind the work is paid or free.

A lookup on one domain settles a single case. The export lets you take the whole population, intersect it with country, suffix and the other tools these teams run, and finish with a list of companies that invest in interface quality, which is a segment no firmographic database will hand you.
