Django is a high-level, open-source web framework written in Python that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. It follows the model-template-views (MTV) architectural pattern and includes a rich set of built-in features such as an ORM, authentication system, admin interface, and URL routing.

Created by Adrian Holovaty and Simon Willison at the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper and released publicly in 2005, Django is maintained by the Django Software Foundation. It powers high-traffic sites including Instagram, Pinterest, Disqus, and many government and media websites. Django emphasizes the DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) principle, security best practices, and developer productivity, making it one of the most widely adopted web frameworks in the Python ecosystem.
