Some frameworks announce themselves and some disappear. Django disappears. A page it renders is ordinary HTML by the time it reaches the browser, with no runtime marker, no framework script and nothing in the markup obliged to name the tool that produced it. Detection rests instead on incidental tells: a session or request forgery cookie left at its conventional name, a static file path following the default layout, an administration route still at its usual address, a distinctive debug or error page, or a header a deployment neglected to strip.

Every one of those tells can be absent from a perfectly ordinary deployment. Cookies get renamed, static files move to a content delivery network under a different path, the admin is relocated or disabled as routine hardening, and a reverse proxy rewrites the headers on the way out. The consequence deserves stating plainly rather than burying. Our count is a floor, and the sites missing from it are not a random sample, because the deployments most likely to hide the framework are the larger and better run ones.

What a confirmed hit tells you is worth more than a framework name. The framework arrives with an object relational mapper, an authentication system, a migration tool and an administration interface in the box, so a team that chose it chose a batteries included path over assembling parts. Released in 2005, written in Python and distributed under BSD by Django Software Foundation, the framework carries a strong convention culture, and the organisations adopting it are often the ones where Python was already in the building for data work, research or scripting before anyone wrote a web application.

As of September 2026 we identify the framework on 114,137 sites, 41,252 of them in United States, with the domains weighted toward .com. The pattern fits a tool that spread through universities, newsrooms, public sector projects and startups rather than through vendor sales teams, and it fits a language whose public web footprint is smaller than its total footprint, because a great deal of the work is internal services with no public front door at all.

For a single domain, a lookup is enough and the answer will be uncertain anyway. The list is what makes the uncertainty tolerable, since aggregate patterns survive individual misses. Which sectors staff Python developers, how the framework's presence moves against newer asynchronous stacks, which companies would be receptive to a hosting product, a monitoring agent or a managed database aimed at the ecosystem, and which recruiters should be looking where. A floor measured consistently is still a usable series, and a series like that only exists in bulk.
