About Big Cartel
Platform choice on a storefront is a statement about ambition as much as about technology. A merchant who picks a system with no marketplace, no multi-warehouse logic and a deliberately short feature list has decided that the shop should stay a shop.
Big Cartel has served that decision since 2005. Big Cartel built it for artists, makers, bands and illustrators, and the Ecommerce product reflects the audience: a storefront, a product list, discount codes, simple order handling and not much else. The application is Ruby, hosted by the vendor under a Proprietary model, so there is no self-hosted install to hunt for and every detection is a live tenant account rather than a copy of the software someone downloaded.
