Nobody puts a load balancer in front of a personal blog. Amazon ALB in a record implies an architecture with more than one thing behind it, a health check deciding which of those things receives traffic, and somebody who thought about what happens when one of them fails. A balancer is a proxy for organisational size in a way that a theme or a font never is. Somebody chose to spend money on availability, and organisations usually make that choice only after an outage has already cost them something.

The inference chain is worth spelling out. A managed balancer from Amazon is rented rather than installed, so its presence also says the workload runs in that provider's cloud instead of on hardware the company owns. A component of this kind usually travels with autoscaling, container orchestration and certificates terminated at the edge of the account rather than on the application host. Anyone selling cloud cost management, observability, container security or migration services is looking at a qualified list, because every entry implies a cloud bill and a person responsible for it.

Detection is inferential and it undercounts. The layer announces itself through a response header and a session cookie, both of which can be suppressed, and a great many deployments sit behind a content delivery network that answers first and never reveals what is upstream. Sites in our list are sites where the layer was visible from outside. Sites absent from it are not necessarily elsewhere. The figure is a floor, and the absence of the signal on a specific domain should be treated as unknown rather than as a negative result.

As of September 2026 we see Amazon ALB on 989,656 sites, with 685,484 of them geolocating to United States and .com as the recurring suffix. Cloud geography is not customer geography. A company in one country routinely runs its workload in a region on another continent for cost or latency reasons, and the address we resolve belongs to the region. The suffix is a better clue to the audience, and combining suffix with page language and with the other technologies detected alongside gets closer to a real market segmentation than the country column alone ever will.

The service has been available since 2016 and is Proprietary, billed by the hour and by the request, which is why it turns up on projects far smaller than the architecture diagram would suggest. A single container behind a balancer is a common pattern for teams that expect to grow. The list therefore mixes real scale with anticipated scale, and separating the two needs a second signal such as subdomain count, the presence of a status page, or hiring activity. Enrichment of that kind is exactly what a per domain lookup cannot support. One lookup answers one question about one company. The export lets you build the cohort first and ask the interesting questions afterwards, which is the order those questions actually arrive in. Cohorts age as well, and watching one across successive releases shows which companies grew into the architecture and which quietly took it down again.
