By the time a page reaches a browser, TypeScript is gone. The compiler strips the types out and emits ordinary JavaScript, and nothing in the shipped bundle is obliged to admit which language it was written in. Any count of sites using a compile-to-JavaScript language is therefore a count of the evidence that survived the build, which is a smaller and more selective thing than the truth.

The evidence that does survive is worth understanding, because it decides who ends up in this dataset. Source maps published alongside production bundles name the original files. Framework and tooling signatures give the build away. Declaration references, unstripped comments and characteristic output patterns do the rest. Teams that ship source maps to production, or that use frameworks whose output is recognisable, are visible to us. Teams that strip everything before deploying are not, however heavily they lean on the language internally.

As of September 2026 we detect TypeScript on 117,400 sites, with 43,517 in United States and a domain mix weighted toward .com. The geographic reading needs the same caution as the total, because a country appearing prominently here reflects where teams both use the language and leave the traces behind, and deployment hygiene varies by market and by agency habit more than most people expect. Treat the distribution as a signal of where identifiable engineering-led development happens rather than as a measurement of adoption.

What the signal is genuinely good for is qualification. A site showing this language behind it has a build pipeline, a dependency tree, a team that decided long-term maintainability was worth an extra compile step, and almost certainly an application rather than a brochure. Developed by Microsoft and published under Apache 2.0 since 2012, the language has become ordinary infrastructure for exactly the kind of company that buys developer tooling, monitoring, component libraries and contract engineering. Filtering the web down to sites with visible TypeScript in the stack removes template installations and small business pages in a single step.

A per-domain lookup answers whether one site left its source maps in production. The downloadable file answers something more useful, which is which population of engineering-led sites can be identified at all and what else those teams have chosen, from front-end frameworks and bundlers to hosting, analytics and payment providers. Read with its known bias in mind, an under-count skewed toward transparent builds, the list is a practical way to find companies that write software rather than publish pages.
