Adobe shipping an open source JavaScript library is not the first thing most people associate with the company. Snap.svg arrived in 2013, in the window when browsers had finally settled on a workable vector graphics implementation and before compiling everything into a framework bundle became standard practice. Written in JavaScript and put out by Adobe under the Apache 2.0 licence, it succeeded an earlier vector library from the same author and was designed for a web where a page pulled in a script and manipulated the document directly.

The web moved on, which is exactly what makes the count interesting. As of September 2026 we still see Snap.svg on 23,869 sites. Very few of those are new builds. A library of this generation survives because it is carried inside something else, a theme, an old administrative panel, an interactive infographic built by an agency that has since closed, a landing page nobody has opened since launch. Presence is therefore a reliable hint about the age and maintenance state of a front end, which is often a more valuable signal than the library's own function.

Geography follows the same logic. United States accounts for 9,276 of the sites we see, and .com is the suffix that recurs most often in the group. The concentration says less about where the library was loved than about where the long tail of older commercial websites happens to live, since English language commercial domains are heavily represented in the layer of the web that has been left alone for years. Country attribution is inferred from hosting and registration data rather than declared by the sites themselves.

Who needs the list follows from the same reading. Security and dependency researchers care because an unmaintained client side library is a supply chain question, and a population file lets them measure how widely one stale dependency is still shipped. Agencies care because a site running a vector library from an earlier era is a redesign conversation waiting to happen. Theme and plugin authors care because their own products are often the reason the library is still there, and a list of affected domains shows how far a bundled dependency travels. Anyone studying the lifecycle of front end code cares because this is one of the cleaner natural experiments in how long a JavaScript dependency actually survives after its moment passes.

The honest caveats run in both directions. Bundling hides the library, so the true number of pages that still include it is higher than what we can see. At the same time a script can be loaded and never called, so presence does not prove the site draws anything with it. Neither issue is resolvable by inspecting one domain more carefully, which is precisely the argument for working from the whole population. A downloadable file supports the questions that matter here. How large is the remaining tail, how fast is it shrinking, and which content systems and server versions travel with it when you cross reference the same domains.
