mod_rails, commercially known as Phusion Passenger, is a web application server and Apache/Nginx module designed to make deploying Ruby on Rails and other Rack-based Ruby applications simple and efficient. Developed by Phusion, it integrates directly into Apache or Nginx, handling process management, load balancing, and request routing automatically.

Phusion Passenger is widely used in production Ruby deployments due to its ease of configuration, automatic worker process management, and support for multiple concurrent requests. It supports Ruby, Python, and Node.js applications and offers both an open-source community edition and a commercial enterprise version with additional features. Many hosting providers and cloud platforms offer native Passenger support, making it one of the most popular Ruby application servers.
