About Highstock

Charting libraries are commodity choices across most of the web, right up until the charts are financial. Highstock is built for time series that run long, update often and have to stay readable while a user drags a range selector across years of data, and its product page sits inside the wider charting line from Highsoft. Where the money enters is what makes the entry worth reading.

The license is Commercial rather than open source. Commercial use has to be licensed and paid for per developer, while personal and non commercial projects fall under separate free terms from the vendor, so a fingerprint match marks a page that either sits behind a purchase or sits inside that exception, and the page itself does not say which. Where a purchase is behind it, the spend usually passes through procurement rather than a developer casually adding a package, so a list of sites running a commercially licensed library is closer to a list of accounts than to a list of technical preferences, and the two objects are used for entirely different things.

Version data is where the technology becomes legible. We record 46 distinct versions in use, and 10.1.0 is the build that recurs across installations, which is a wide spread for a single library. Wide spreads appear when upgrades cost something. A paid library gets pinned to whatever release the license and the integration were built around, financial dashboards are tested against specific rendering behavior, and nobody willingly upgrades a chart that already works. The result is a long tail of installations sitting on releases of very different ages, all of them functioning, many of them well behind whatever the vendor ships today.

The tail reads differently depending on who is looking. For the vendor it is a support and renewal map. For a security or diligence reader it is an inventory question, because a pinned charting library inside a customer facing dashboard is client side code that ages in place, and knowing which build a site actually serves is the difference between a guess and a finding. For a competitor it is a displacement list, since the sites carrying the oldest builds are the ones whose integration has not been touched in a long time and whose owners have already stopped treating it as strategic.

Our records place the earliest year at 2011, and the implementation is JavaScript delivered to the browser like any other front end asset, which is the reason detection works at all. Detection still misses things. A bundled and minified build can lose its version string, a chart that renders only after a login is invisible to a public crawl, and the wider charting suite from the same vendor shares enough surface that attributing a page to one product rather than another is not always clean. Where a version cannot be read the site can still be counted, so the version breakdown and the site total answer slightly different questions and should not be treated as the same population.

As of September 2026 we detect it on 197 sites. Checking one domain answers whether a company you already have in mind uses the library. The downloadable set answers who else does, at which build, and on what kind of site, and that combination is the input for a renewal campaign, a competitive sweep or a survey of how financial interfaces are really put together.
