About Squadata
Third party tags are the cheapest things on a page to add and the easiest to forget, which is why a domain can end up carrying several at once and why the interesting question is rarely whether a site tries to win back the visitors who leave without buying. The question is who it pays to do that work. On its own site the vendor describes an email and SMS retargeting service: identify the anonymous visitors a shop already has, match them against an opt-in profile base, and send a personalised follow-up. Squadata sits on the paid side of that line, and our record files the product under Retargeting, credits it to Squadata and marks it Proprietary.
A proprietary tag implies a relationship that an open source one does not. Somebody signed a contract, somebody is invoiced, and under most privacy regimes somebody had to be named as a processor of visitor data in a public notice. A site running a commercial visitor identification product has made a decision with a counterparty attached to it, which is why privacy researchers building processor inventories, and competitors mapping a vendor's footprint, both work from the tag rather than from company statements.
The row itself is thin and there is no point implying otherwise. We hold no version data, no earliest year, no implementation language and no country breakdown for Squadata, and the vendor field repeats the product name, which tells a reader nothing about corporate structure or about where the business operates. A domain on its own does not establish a country of origin, and we are not going to infer one.
Detection for a smaller vendor is harder than for a large one in a way that biases the count downward. Tag managers load third party scripts at runtime from a container that looks the same whichever vendor sits inside, and fingerprints for lesser known products get written later and refined less often than fingerprints for products every scanner already knows. As of October 2026 we detect Squadata on 1 site, and the number is the set we can confirm rather than the set that exists.
For a researcher, the reason to take the full list rather than checking domains individually is that the useful patterns live in the group. Which industries appear, which countries, which domain endings, which ecommerce platforms and consent tools sit alongside it, and which competing retargeting products the same sites run in parallel. A lookup answers a question about a domain you have already chosen. The dataset answers a question about a market.
